New Moon

The moon cycles relate to the female body and we can use them to help us track our workouts and health.

Here’s why using the Moon Cycles can help us track our Workouts:

  • There are 4 monthly phases of the moon: new, waxing, full + waning.

  • There are 4 monthly hormonal phases in the female body: menstrual, follicular, ovulatory, luteal. 2 phases if you are in or have gone through menopause. This still applies!

  • The moon phases and the hormonal phases correlate. And when we learn their similarities, we can use them to help our bodies feel supported, productive + healthy. Starting with our workouts.

This has been a game-changer for me and my female clients!

When we start to track our cycles and what hormones are surging through us, we can tailor our workouts to fit our bodies’ needs at that point in the month. It’s not a guessing game anymore as to why you feel super energized one week and then want to curl up on the couch after work the next.

It’s seriously amazing to understand!

The New Moon is associated with the bleed of our menstrual cycle. Our hormones are at their lowest starting to rise.

This is the phase that our bodies want to rest with our energy being the lowest. Our bodies are shedding a layer of us during our first week of the menstrual cycle. It is like a detox. And when we detox, we want to allow the body to do its innate magic without adding extra stressors.

For your workouts:

Very slow, gentle movement if any at all. On your heaviest bleed days, you may want to rest completely. Take the day off. Slowly start incorporating leisure walking outside, yoga nidra, slow flow yoga, dance or any exercise that feels nourishing and supportive to the body. Keep in mind what our intention is this monthly cycle for our body. Always tailoring our movement practice to this.

Happy New Moon!
