3 Steps to Exercise in a Holistic, Intuitive Way
Most women know that exercising, strength training, cardiovascular training and stretching specifically, are incredibly important for our longevity and health. The issue many of us find is that it’s hard to fit every type of workout in your week, especially if you work 40 hours + a week or have a family. This is why learning to exercise in a holistic intuitive way can be very helpful and actually improve your health even more.
When we look at anything health related through a holistic lens, we are able to look at the whole picture of the body instead of thinking of it in separate parts. All of the systems of the body including your emotional and mental health will interplay with your physical health. Using your intuition, your internal roadmap which all women are born with, can help you make decisions as to what type of exercise is right for that day.
The first step is to look at what your longterm goal is. Weight loss? Gaining muscle? Overall health? It’s always good to know where we are “going” with an end point in mind.
Second step is to take a moment and sit with your intuition. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Shifting your attention from your logical brain to your lower belly or womb space, ask yourself this question: “What would I really need to do to get myself to (whatever the goal is) from a place of nourishment, ease and joy?” Listen to this response and keep it in the back of your mind.
Third step is to make a plan. We need all 3 pieces of exercise to be a healthy human but depending on your goal and your intuitive wisdom, we will do more or less of one or another. If your goal is weight loss, looking at moving the body more is going to be crucial along with a small amount of stretching. If your goal is gaining strength and muscle, concentrating less on cardio and more on strength training and flexibility. Overall health as a goal would be great to concentrate on all 3 equally.
Fourth step is to carve out time for yourself in your calendar to make it happen. This can sometimes be the hardest part!
